Lucky instead of a Sweet

This is a Lucky cigarette advertisement from the 1930’s.  The strategy of this ad is to convince women to smoke cigarettes whenever they have a craving for something sweet, which will suppress their appetite and keep them slender.

This type of ad would not be relevant today.  Smoking is thought of as a terrible habit.  People associate smoking with negative side effects and diseases that are caused from smoking.  This ad would not be effective because most people would care more about their health than how slender they may appear.  However, there is probably a small percentage of people that would find this ad effective because they care more about their image than their health.
