This ad for Gatorade is obviously based on product research. The phrase “most researched sports drink” is printed on the bottom. Research is a common theme in several Gatorade campaigns, their TV spots often depicting research being taken. The copy printed at the top of the page is describing the nutritional content of Gatorade by describing that of water. The product itself has had a long history with research. In 1965, the University of Florida football team was being affected by heat related illness. Researchers discovered that a low supply of carbohydrates and electrolytes were the reason for the illness. A lab created Gatorade as a solution. The benefit of Gatorade is the replenishing of carbohydrates and electrolytes, as well as better athletic performance. This benefit is clearly evident in the ad not only in the substance itself, but in the idea that Gatorade has “got game” an essential component in great athletic performance.
